He was predeceased by: his daughter Marina Eklund; and his close friend John Myer. He is survived by: his parents, Robert F. Eklund and Helen M. Eklund (Kettell); his daughters, Gina Murfitt (Anthony), Katie Eklund and Gabrielle Eklund; and his sisters, Diane Klein (Barry), Christine Eklund, Nancy Campbell (Bob) and Janet Eklund (Kenny). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and several close friends.
