With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Leslie Whitaker in New Paltz, New York, born in Staten Island, New York, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on February 26, 2026 at the age of 70. He was predeceased by: his parents, Leslie Whitaker Sr. and Julia Edgerston; his stepfather David Johnson; his siblings, Louis Powers and Ruth Edwards; his brother-in-law Leonard Edwards; and his long-lost love Brenda Spurgeon.
He is survived by: his children, Moniquea Murphy (Jack), Danyelle Whitaker, Traci Moore, Dawny Spurgeon and Calvin Spurgeon (Mariah); his sisters, Deborrah Ivy and Melinda Edwards; his grandchildren, La'Monii Robinson, Calvin Spurgeon, Eviana Spurgeon and Emilio Spurgeon; his turtle Duke; and his pet Honey. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving family members.
