He was predeceased by: his parents, Jimmie Nelson and Lessie Nelson (Green); his former wife Dorthy Mae Downey; his wife Dolores Chisholm of Harlem, NY.; his children, Perry McDowell, Kirk McDowell (Jolly) and Vernarie Copeland; and his siblings, Roy Nelson, Chester Nelson, Gladys Gill, Nelson, Eva Satterfield and Alfred Toler.
He is survived by: his children, Sherry Waddell (Louis) of Mt Vernon, NY, Stephanie Nelson-Paul (Vernon) of Charlotte, NC, Jimmie Nelson of Baltimore, MD, Kenny Barnes of Bronx, NY, Dolores Arzu of New York, NY and Allen McDowell (Bobo) of Atlanta, GA; his sister-in-law Boxie Nelson of Oxford, NC; his son-in-law Reverend Brinsin Copeland of Atlanta, GA; and his grandchildren, Simeon Arzu Jr. of New York, NY, Louis Waddell III of Mt Vernon, NY, Nyle, Peyton Paul of Charlotte, NC, Walter McDowell of Long Island, NY, Kenadie Barnes of Bronx, NY, Deqon Massiah of New York, NY, Brinsina, LaCrissy, Latonye, Brinson Jr. and Valencia. He is also survived by nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
