He was predeceased by: his parents, Ed Mathison and Viola Cooper Mathison; his wife Sarah Lucinda Bearden Mathison; and his siblings, Henry, Raymond, Richard, Charles, Joe Bob Mathison and Shirley Mathison.

He is survived by: his sons, Dr. John Eric Mathison (Carol) and Stacy Mathison (Lisa); his grandchildren, Lainey McLellan (Ryan), Jessie Ann Street (Scott), Alexis Marie Rains (Logan) and Anna Clair Jones (Alec); and his great grandchildren, Paige McLellan, Sadie McLellan, Sylvia Street, Julia Street, Ross Rains, Harrison Rains, Hudson Moser and Remington Mae Jones. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 13th 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Chapel of Owen Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 14th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location. A burial will be held on Wednesday, October 14th 2026 at the Sunset Memory Gardens.
