He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, John Oakes and Marie Oakes (Cunningham); his sister Janet Oakes; his children, Carolyn Oakes (Steve Townsend) of Newark, NY, Brian Oakes (Greg Monaco) of Nyack, NY, Beth Thomas (David) of Sharpsburg, MD, John Oakes (Eve) of Manlius, NY, Christopher Oakes (Lisa) of Clifton Springs, NY and Rebecca Oakes (Gordon Smith) of Phoenix, AZ.; and his great grandchild Caleb Oakes.
