He was predeceased by: his parents, Glenn Bates and Bertha Bates (Hill); his sister-in-law Phyllis Bates; and his close friend Jim Stanley. He is survived by: his wife Deborah D. Sadzkowski; his daughter Michele Fowler (Chris) of Anchorage, AK; his brother Terry Bates of Ilion; and his pets, Amos and Murphy.
