He was predeceased by: his parents, Chester E. Smith and Edith May Smith (Crandall); his wife Helen Smith (Bukovscak); his children, Richard Smith and Angela Smith; and his sister Judith Stittler.

He is survived by: his children, Ronald Smith, Jr., Randy Smith (Karen), Viviann Smith, Valerie Seig (Gary), Kimberly Hayes (Clint), Shelly Phan (Tom) and Sherri Smith (Mark Deyo); his brother Charles C. Smith; and his close friend Joanne Harms. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
