He was predeceased by: his parents, Samuel Howitt and Marguerite Stowitts Howitt; and his brother Robert. He is survived by: his wife Flora Finch Howitt; his son Samuel C. Howitt (Jeanette) of Northville; and his sister Margaret Taylor of Broadalbin. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, in care of the funeral home.
