He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl M. Ashley and Dorothy Ashley (Bell); his brother Carl Ashley, Jr.; and his friend Charles W. Kelly. He is survived by: his significant other Karen; his children, Colleen Ashley (Christopher Sharlow) and Patrick Ashley; his stepmother Patricia Moulton; his stepchildren, Greg Dawley, Stephen Dawley and Melissa Dawley; his grandchildren, Jacob Awan, Jaedyn Awan and Abby Ashley; and his uncle Richard "Uncle Dick" Dillenbeck.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a scholarship fund in the memory of Sergeant Wayne L. Ashley at St. Lawrence Federal Credit Union.
