He was predeceased by: his wife Jeanne Frair; his parents, Elmer and Julia; and his brothers, Robert and Richard Stives.

He is survived by: his children, Christine Carpenter (Steve), Robert Stives (Brandi Lynn) and Nicholas Stives; his grandchildren, Caleb Carpenter (Leah), Albanie Giberson (Troy), Tyler Stives, Leigha Stives and Joel Stives; his great grandchildren, Ezra Carpenter and Theodore Giberson; and his sister-in-law Penny Stives.
