He was predeceased by: his parents, Andrew Colern and Marion Colern (Spencer); and his siblings, Robert Colern (late Ethel "Babe"), Elizabeth Knoop (late Pasquale Malizia) and Thomas Colern (Shirley).

He is survived by: his spouse Pat Colern (Sands); his daughters, Patricia Gemmell (Donald), Jennifer Szlapak, Lori Sniderhan and Jill Szlapak; and his siblings, Norma Huson (late Jake), Francis "Pooch" Colern (Shirley), Dolores Colern, Carol Feyes (late Jack), Colleen Candurra (late Vincent) and Monica Tobin (late Michael). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
