He is survived by: his wife Mary Ellen Tompkins; his children, Wendy Fusco (Paul), John W. Tompkins Jr. (Kristina), Jill Tompkins, David Tompkins (Valerie) and Allen Tompkins (Kara); his stepchildren, Pitt Petri, III and Harold Lowe Petri "Hal" (Shelly); and his sibling Jean Tompkins Taylor. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in John's memory to a charity of one's choice.
