He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Joaquim Manuel Martins and Laurinda Martins Junior; his wife Maria Martins (São); his children, Laurie, John, Carlos, Bela, Julio and Maria; his grandchildren, Samuel, Miguel, Maxuel and Briana; and his siblings, Sebastião, Joaquim, Armando, Manuel, Carlos, Maria Teresa, Laurinda, José Martins I, José Martins II and Antonio Martins.

In addition, he was the leader of the team responsible for the Portuguese community's contribution to the St. Ann's Festival.
