He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Gallagher and Rhoda Gallagher (Neuroth); his son Joseph Gallagher; and his brother Daniel Gallagher. He is survived by: his wife Christina Sweeney; his children, Mollie Johnson (Matt) of Liverpool, Katie Gallagher of Oswego, Patrick Gallagher (Lisa) of Oswego and Shane Gallagher of Rochester; his siblings, Jim Gallagher (Ruth) of North Carolina, Ruth Bryan (Fran) of Arizona and Colleen Whitehead of North Carolina; his grandchildren, Braelyn, Harper, Shane Jr. and Oscar; his siblings-in-law, Renee Anderson Gallagher and Shawn Sweeney (Barb) of Georgia; and his close friend Ekko. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
