He was predeceased by: his parents, Clare McNamara (Martin) and Michael McNamara; his son Michael R. McNamara; his sisters, Clare Lanzano and Kathleen McNamara; and his niece Carolann Chiafalo.

He is survived by: his wife Jane (Mahoney); his children, Janet Barron (Sean), Thomas McNamara, Robert McNamara (Lara), John McNamara (Cathy) and Jeanne Conkin (Jason); his grandchildren, Mc'to Kelly, Courtney, Michael Barron, Steven McNamara, Martin Flynn, Lila McNamara, Kaitlyn, Megan McNamara, Liz Israel (Nick), Jay, Ben and Clare Conkin; his great grandchildren, Lena and Matias Israel; his cousin Mary Moorehead; and his sibling's children, Clare Johnson (Troy), Philip Chiafalo (Ana), Edward Chiafalo and James Mahoney.
