It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Walter Joseph Merkle (Pearl River, New York), born in College Point, New York, who passed away on September 26, 2020, at the age of 92, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by : his parents, Juliette Merkle and Anthony Merkle; his wife Katherine; his siblings, Marian, Daniel and Anthony; and his cousin Arthur.

He is survived by : his sons, Walter Jr. (Alicia) of Eugene and Peter (Linda) of Pearl River, NY.; his grandchildren, Christopher, Peter, Amanda, Kevin (Kayla) and Kathryn; his great grandchild Callan; and his siblings-in-law, John Degnan (Jack) and Mary Degnan. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in honor and memory of Walter at the Wounded Warrior Project or at 'Answer The Call' - the NY Police & Fire Widows & Children's Benefit Fund.
