She was predeceased by: her parents, Robert Hess and Mary Hess; and her in-laws, Richard and Patricia O'Brien. She is survived by: her husband Thomas C. Abraham; her children, Timothy Abraham (Alex) and Kristin Johnson (David); her grandsons, Nathaniel Johnson, Jacob Johnson and Benjamin Abraham; her siblings, Robert Hess (Cathy) and Mary Ellen Cosgrove (Frank); and her in-laws, John Abraham (Jeanie), Christine Hughson, Nancy Rood and Jenny Braun (Greg).

Following her Parkinson's diagnosis in 1995, which brought an end to her professional career, she shifted her focus to becoming an advocate for the disease.
