Marilyn DeRuyter Obituary
We announce the death of Marilyn DeRuyter (Phelps, New York), who passed away on September 29, 2026, at the age of 75. Marilyn will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. She was predeceased by: her parents, Virginia Walters and John Chester; her stepfather Donald Walters; her stepbrother Doug Walters; Jean Vittum.
She is survived by: her caregiver Mart VanKirk; her friend Joseph DeRuyter; her sister Cheryl Chester (Teresa); her children, Aaron DeRuyter (Diane) and Addie Klaehn (Sam); her grandchildren, Adrean, Maxwell, Nolan and Lily; her stepsisters, Michele Lohr and Cindy Hall; and her friend Greg Barnard. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and cousins, former students and close friends.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 4th 2026 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Cheney Funeral Home (70 Main St, Phelps, NY 14532).

A Midlakes High School scholarship was established in Marilyn's honor and donations to the Marilyn DeRuyter Inclusivity Award can be sent to Addie Klaehn at 3 Hillside Drive, Clifton Springs, NY 14432.
