He was predeceased by : his parents, Truman Bates and Beatrice Bates (Terry); his wife Nancy Daniels; and his siblings, Terry, Stephen Bates and Winifred Darrah.

He is survived by : his children, Scott Bates (Renay) of West Chazy, Terri Meyers of Plattsburgh and Tina Bates (Jeffrey Tyrell) of Plattsburgh. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be to the Fitzpatrick Cancer Center at UVM-CVPH Medical Center.
