It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Maria Axton of Port Byron, New York, who passed away on May 16, 2025, at the age of 76, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Frank Okal and Justina Okal of Lemkivshchena, Ukraine.; her husband Earl Axton; her niece Natalie Chmilar; and her nephew Michael Caruana.

She is survived by: her siblings, Irene Caruana (Joseph), Anna Danyluk (Eugene), Olga Gulkewycz (Jerry) and Nick Okal (Lesya); her sons, David Axton (Robin) and Timothy Axton (Juliann); her grandchildren, Cierra Short (Timothy), Sydney Kiskiel (Jenna), Talia, Reeve, Leighton and Timothy Axton Jr.; and her great grandchildren, Macie and Asher Short.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society (donate by visiting donate.cancer.org or by calling 1-800-227-2345), to help fund research for lung cancer.
