He is survived by: his wife Diane Schmits; his children, Emily Schmits and Christofer Schmits; his parents, Walter Schmits and Katherine Schmits; his siblings, Gretchen Raymond (Thierry), Lisa Chase (Matt) and Timothy Schmits; his mother-in-law Helen Gardella; his sister-in-law Karen Knapp (Paul); his friends, Sandy Pond and Pi Alpha Nu; his brother Ted; and his pets, Lucy, Finley and Rosie. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins.
