Derek Maus Obituary

We bid farewell to Derek Maus in Potsdam, New York, whose journey of life gracefully concluded on September 17, 2025 at the age of 53. Derek touched countless lives with warmth and kindness, leaving behind cherished memories that will forever echo in hearts. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

As we bid Derek farewell, let us not mourn the absence of his physical form, but rather celebrate the essence of his spirit that lingers in the spaces between moments. For Derek is not truly gone, but merely transformed, his energy intertwined with the fabric of the universe itself, forever dancing among the stars.

We rode out the COVID-19 pandemic together as a young family, enjoyed the Canadiens' unlikely run to the 2021 Stanley Cup Finals together under curfew in Montréal, and simultaneously juggled Oscar's first few years of school and my post-diagnosis treatment schedule.

Also, I would prefer if in lieu of flowers or charitable donations or any other material gesture that anyone wishing to offer something in my memory simply perform some act of kindness that they might otherwise not have.
