With sadness, we share the passing of James D. Palmateer in Poughkeepsie, New York. James, born on April 13, 1942, passed away on October 26, 2026. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, James Palmateer, and Florence Palmateer, Sr. (Rifenburg); his daughters, Sharon Palmateer and Kim Ellison; and his son-in-law Christopher Zietz.
He is survived by: his wife Nancy Lee; his children, Brenda Van Etten of Red Hook and Kevin Palmateer (Mary) of Red Hook; his brother Vaughan Palmateer (Penny) of Blairsville, Georgia.; his grandchildren, Jessica Ellison, Nicole Ellison, Zachary Tener, Theodore Tener, Derek Zietz, Dana Zietz, William Maguire and Amanda Maguire; and his great grandchildren, Colton, Kinsley, Emila, Ian and Francis. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 4th 2026 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Burnett and White Funeral Home (7461 S Broadway, Red Hook, NY 12571). A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 4th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
Memorials may be made to James memory to the Red Hook Fire Company or to the LaGrange Fire Company.
