He was predeceased by: his parents, John Anthony Vita, Sr. and Julia Angeline Vita (DeRocco); his father-in-law Ralph C. (Jeanette L. Apa); his siblings-in-law, Camillo, Jeanne DeBenedictus, Michael, Margaret Apa, Susan Apa and Rayfield Drowne; his nephew Dean Apa; and his sister Lois Tuohey.
He is survived by: his friend Navy Chaplain; his wife Sharon Margaret Apa; his children, Jeanne-Marie Vita, Andrea Loussedes (Gregory), John Vita (Winifred), Kelli Caine (John) and Michael Vita; his grandchildren, Nicholas, Anthony, John IV, Julianna, Camille, Joei, Brandon, Ryan and Luca; his sister Joyce Vita; and his siblings-in-law, Ralph Apa and Marie Drowne.
Visitation was held on Sunday, September 28th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the William G. Miller & Son Funeral Home, Inc. (371 Hooker Ave, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603). A Mass of Christian burial was held on Monday, September 29th 2025 at 9:30 AM at the St. Martin de Porres Church (118 Cedar Valley Rd, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603).
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to Hudson Valley Hospice, Parkinson's Foundation or Special Olympics New York in his name.
