We announce the death of Matthew Capano in Poughkeepsie, New York, who passed away on September 9, 2026, at the age of 63. Matthew will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. He was predeceased by: his parents, Michael Sr. and Lucille Capano; and his sister Luann Capano Marek. He is survived by: his wife Tammy Capano; his daughters, Kristin Capano-Havens (Peter) of Mayfield and Trista Morreale (Jake) of Broadalbin; his brothers, Michael Jr. Capano (Julie) of Largo and Mark Capano (Elizabeth) of Ballston Spa; his stepmother Patricia Capano; his stepsiblings, Stephanie Bakyta of Gloversville, Lori Reid (Bruce) of The Villages and David Bakyta of Gloversville; his grandchildren, Isabella, Talia, Angelo and Anthony; his nieces and nephews, Dominique, Alex, Travis and Michael III; and his close friends, Jim Chittenden and Pete Warner. He is also survived by many other relatives and dear friends.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, September 16th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc. (111 Co Rd 106, Johnstown, NY 12095). A prayer was held on Thursday, September 17th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Halgas Funeral Home (111 Co Rd 106, Johnstown, NY 12095). A graveside service was held on Thursday, September 17th 2026 at 11:15 AM at the Mount Carmel Cemetery.
