She was predeceased by: her parents, Max Kopel and Libby Pine; her brother Arthur Kopel; her former husband Oscar Gassner; her daughter Lori Flieger; her husband Howard Thompson; and her son Stephan Gassner.
She is survived by: her granddaughter Jennifer Flieger; her son-in-law Edward Flieger; her stepsons, Andy Thompson (Susan) and Larry Thompson (Pam); and her stepgrandchildren, Renee Wickliff (Jon), Joshua Thompson and Jane Thompson. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 13th 2026 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the Sinai Chapels (114-03 Queens Blvd, Forest Hills, NY 11375). A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 13th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at the Mount Ararat Cemetery (1165 NY-109, Lindenhurst, NY 11757).
Betty also followed politics avidly and made many charitable donations to many organizations throughout her lifetime.
