He was predeceased by: his father Ralph Golson; his grandparents, Adeline Thompson, Winford Thompson, Sr., Lena Golson and Sidney Golson Sr.; and his brothers, Roderick Baldwin and Anthony McDougald.

He is survived by: his mother Lovie Thompson; his son Derek "DJ" Golson Jr.; his siblings, Jason Golson (Melba), Justin Golson and Kelly Golson; and his nieces and nephews, Jason Golson Jr., Kairo Golson, Jakira Golson and Janylah Golson. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, cousins, and many dear friends.

Visitation was held on Friday, October 2nd 2026 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and on Saturday, October 3rd 2026 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. A celebration of life was held on Saturday, October 3rd 2026 at 12:00 PM at the Whatecoat United Methodist Church (341 S Saulsbury Rd, Dover, DE 19904). A burial was held on Saturday, October 3rd 2026 at the Lakeside Cemetery (558 N State St, Dover, DE 19901).
