It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Mary A. Athanas (Rhinebeck, New York), who passed away on April 6, 2026, at the age of 87, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Thomas Cunningham Sr. and Helen Coon Cunningham; and her siblings, Rolland Coon, Thomas Cunningham Jr. and Barbara Rockefeller.
She is survived by: her husband John Athanas Jr.; her children, Drucilla Ary (Joe) of Hillsdale, NY, Michael Coon (Merilee) of Red Hook and Susan Jacobson (Tim Zacheus) of Clifton Park; and her stepchildren, Carol Mateer (Judy), Phillip Athanas, Sandra Sammons (Tim) and Robert Athanas (Dawn). She is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
