He was predeceased by: his grandson Mikey Gunkel, III; his parents, Martin Ruby and Dorothy Ruby; his brother William Ruby; and his brothers-in-law, John Meloni and Greg Cottrell.

He is survived by: his wife Joanne Ruby; his children, Heather Gunkel (Mike) and Jason Ruby (Barbara); his grandchildren, Elizabeth, LeAnn, Jamison and Connor; and his siblings, Martin (Joanne), Patty DiGregorio (Joe), Margaret Figler (Gary), Paul (Lorry), Dorothy Montobello, Mary Campbell, Ann Mongeon (Don), Elizabeth Meloni, Michael, Thomas and Joannie Cottrell. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
