He was predeceased by: his parents, Katherine Shaffer, and John Shaffer, Sr.; and his sister Mary O'Donnell. He is survived by: his wife JoEllen Shaffer; his children, Ben Shaffer and Maggie Grillo (Jim); his granddaughters, Mary, Emma and Juliana Grillo; and his brother James Stearns. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
