He was predeceased by: his father John T. Downey of Philadelphia, PA; his brother John T. Downey of Vestal, NY; his brothers-in-law, Jay McCloskey (Danette) and William McCloskey (Kelly); his nephew Jack Liam McCloskey; his cousin Matt Reasoner (Margaret); and his parents-in-law, Maureen and James McCloskey.

He is survived by: his wife Joan Downey; his sons, Kyle Downey and John Downey of Fairport, NY; his mother Patricia Gelser Davis of Chili, NY; his sister Susan Sinclair of Rochester, NY; his aunt Margaret Tintera (Peggy); his siblings-in-law, Sherry Brearley-Downey, Kathy Forster (Robbie), Mary Kiely (John), Theresa, Kennedy (Shaun) and Kevin McCloskey (Sara); his nieces and nephews, Jessica Taddeo, Brent Brearley (Brittany), Iree Downey, Kenzie Forster-Garcia (Crystal), Eric McCloskey (Jenna), Kaitlyn McNees (Daniel), RJ Forster (Gabriella), Paige McCloskey, Katie Kiely, Jamie McCloskey, Tarin Kiely and Lincoln Kennedy; and his cousins, Bill Spalty (Lynn), Cory Spalty, Michael Spalty, Edward Tintera Jr. (Mary), JB Tintera (Lisa), Joanne Mullin (John) and Margaret Reasoner.
