He was predeceased by: his parents, George Alder and Mary Alder (Smith); his wife Arlene Converse Grosjean of Alder's Antiques; his stepson Jeffrey Grosjean; his siblings, Ida Whipple, Bertha Wyman, Sara Rebe, Julia Lauber, Grace Cogswell, George Jr., Howard and John Alder; and his close friend Angie Wickham.

He is survived by: his daughter Doreen; his son-in-law Greg McDonald; his sons, Thomas P. Alder and Brian Goodall (Andree); his stepdaughter Kelly Cagwin (Dane); his sister Marie Landi; and his grandchildren, Grace McDonald, Aaron Cagwin (Sarah), Lindsey Gori (Jason), Danielle Burdett (Stuart) and Nick Goodall (Natalie). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and great-grandchildren.
