He was predeceased by: his parents, Frederick Schafer and Eleanor Connors Schafer. He is survived by: his wife Ruth Ellen Portz Schafer; his daughters, Amy Schafer-Smith (Steven) and Alison Fraley (Jason); his grandchildren, Austin Smith and Schafer Fraley; and his siblings, Carolyn Bestle (Fred), Janice Dewey, Janet Lasky and Karl Schafer (Stacy). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
