Michael Gerald Wentz Obituary
We are sad to announce that on September 4, 2021, at the age of 74, Michael Gerald Wentz (Selden, New York), born in Hanover, Pennsylvania passed away. He was the husband of Martha (Pierce) Wentz, for fifty years on Aug, 2.
Michael was born on December 9 1946, in Hanover, PA the son of the late Gerald M. and Nadine M.E. (Wentz) Wentz. Michael was always passionate about music and began singing and playing the trombone with his father and other relatives at a very young age. He played for St. Bartholomew's United Church (ELCA) and continued playing music in the band at South Western High School. Upon graduating high school in 1964, he entered the U.S Navy where he performed as a Navy musician. After leaving the Navy, he formed his own 7 piece band “The Inner Soul” whose name was later changed to “S.P.U.D.D” and performed extensively in Norfolk, Portsmouth and Chesapeake areas of Va.
In August 1978, Michael moved his family to Long Island, NY where he sold musical instruments wholesale for Joe Saltzman. After the passing of Joe, Michael worked for Lou Capece Music. He also enjoyed working at Island 16 Movie Theatre for more than 24 years as a customer relations representative.
Michael loved the LA Dodgers but his greatest love was making memories with his children and grandchildren, traveling in his RV with them and hosting Grandma Camp for one week every summer. Michael is survived by his wife Martha and their family; Kimberly M. Wentz Amici, her husband Carl and their children, Ava Grace, Eliana Christine and Aaron Joseph; Michael Paul Wentz, his wife Jennifer and their daughter Mackenzie.
Family and friends can view and share memories of Michael at The Village of Faith Church, 1070 Portion Rd., Farmingville, NY on Thursday, September 9th from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and again from 7:00pm 9:00pm with Pastors Dan and Janet Cotrone officiating the night service. The evening service will be streamed live on Village of Faith Church Facebook page for everyone who will not be able to attend in person.
Friends and family will join together for more goodbyes on Friday morning at Forrester Maher Funeral Home, 998 Portion Rd. Ronkonkama, NY from 9:00am to 10:00 am before the burial service at Calverton Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Village of Faith Church, 1070 Portion Rd., Farmingville, NY.
