In the soft embrace of remembrance, we recall the profound impact Barbara had on those she encountered along her journey. Though Barbara may have slipped beyond the veil of mortality, her essence lingers like a faint fragrance in the air, a lingering reminder of the beauty and complexity of the human experience.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Harry Hayes and Florence Hayes (Bentley); and her husband George L. Gilchrest. She is survived by: her daughters, Edith Slaymaker (Glenn) of Hebron, NY and Jeanne Smith (Dan) of Shushan, NY; her grandchildren, Taylor Cuevas, Nolan Cuevas (Erika) and Cordell Smith; and her great grandchildren, Ella and Ava. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 27th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Shushan United Methodist Church (1057 Co Rd 61, Shushan, NY 12873).
