He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Sidney Ernst and Eve Ernst; his wife Ann Dahlquist Ernst of Southampton; his former wife Mary Ernst; his sons, Andrew Ernst of Marblehead, MA and Daniel Ernst; his stepdaughters, Deborah Dahlquist of Sag Harbor, NY, Robin Yates of Hampton Bays, NY and Heidi Kidd of Frisco, TX; his grandchildren, Andrew, Emily of Massachusetts, Madeleine and Graham of The Netherlands; and his stepgrandchildren, Edward of New York, Amanda of New Hampshire, Robert of North Carolina, Gavin and Chase of Texas.
