With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Joan I. (Brusso) Schmeling (Syracuse, New York), who passed away on October 10, 2025 at the age of 84. Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
In the soft embrace of remembrance, we recall the profound impact Joan had on those she encountered along her journey. Though Joan may have slipped beyond the veil of mortality, her essence lingers like a faint fragrance in the air, a lingering reminder of the beauty and complexity of the human experience.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Rubin Louis Brusso and Leda Irene LaDuke; her husband Kurt R. Schmeling; and her daughter Debra Joan Schmeling. She is survived by: her children, Kurt D. Schmeling (Kathy), Derek R. Schmeling (Melinda), Sunday Darling, Bobbi Merwin (Mark) and Chad A. Schmeling (Brooke). She is also survived by 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 18th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at the Thomas J. Pirro Jr. Funeral Home (3401 Vickery Rd, Syracuse, NY 13212). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 18th 2025 at 10:30 AM at the same location.
