She was predeceased by: her parents, Ross Schellenger and Ruth Schellenger (Fowler); her husband Elmer W. Garmley Jr.; and her siblings, James Schellenger, Karl Schellenger and Mary Tucker (Schellenger).

She is survived by: her children, Lina Garmley (late Robert) of Saratoga, Sheila Phillips (late Paul) of Brunswick, Kevin, Nanette Garmley of Brunswick, Bruce, Rhonda Garmley of Brunswick, Todd Garmley of Brunswick and Marlene Maloney (late Tory) of Brunswick. She is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, great-great-great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

At the request of the Garmley family, and as a way to express their gratitude for the excellent, compassionate care shown to Shirley by the visiting nurses in her home, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice, 315 South Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12208, in memory of Shirley M. Garmley.
