Evelyn Elaine (Lanman) Mueller Obituary
Evelyn Elaine Mueller, 86, of Deerfield NY, and a fifty-year resident of Poland NY, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, February 28, 2026. Evelyn passed peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family and caregivers.
Evelyn was born November 18, 1939, in Davis County Iowa, to Archer (Archie) and Hazel Lanman. At a young age their family moved to a small farm in Sugartown, Louisiana, where she grew up. She loved to tell tales of her adventures in the woods and brooks of her southern home, fishing with her Pa, eating home grown watermelon in the cool of the mornings and picking cotton in the hot Louisiana sun.
Evelyn graduated top of her class and at 18 years old was working as a secretary in Deridder, LA when she met the love of her life, a handsome German, and an American Soldier at a local soda shop. She married Herbert Mueller 3 months later, June 19th, 1958.
Evelyn had 4 children and in 1974 settled in their forever home in Poland NY. She was an amazing homemaker for her family but was also career-minded, spending many years working for Fraternal Composites in Utica NY where on a recent visit was treated like a legend. Evelyn was a Charter member of Herkimer County Community College, where she took courses in accounting, but her proudest achievement came when she graduated from Herkimer BOCES as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She was a wonderful nurse who cared deeply for her patients. She was employed for decades at Broad Acres Nursing Home and then for Oxford Home Care. Evelyn also worked side by side with her carpenter husband working on projects together. Among her many talents, Evelyn was skilled at needlework, sewing, baking, cooking and fishing. Her greatest joy was in tending her garden where she would spend hours on end. She also loved music and enjoyed singing with her children at the piano and playing her accordion. With her husband, Evelyn visited nearly every state in the USA and traveled to Europe, Mexico and Canada.
A lifelong Christian, Evelyn was baptized in Bundick’s Creek, and attended Dry Creek Baptist Church with her best friend Garnetia. She attended St. John the Baptist Church in Newport NY for many years, and most recently was a member of Greater Grace Church of Utica.
She is survived by her son Herbert Mueller Jr. of Meriden CT, daughters and son in-laws, Lori and Andrew Wolf of Chittenango NY. Cindi and Richard Eastman of Deerfield NY, and Heidi and Frank Broadbent of Yorkville NY , 12 grandchildren; Amanda Reinhardt, Shannon Taylor, Allison Eastman, Cody Wolf, Josh Wolf, Leanna Wolf, Amber Wolf, Glenn Broadbent, Frank Broadbent Jr., Savannah Leo, Tabitha Broadbent, Wesley Broadbent, many great grandchildren, and several loving nieces and nephews. Evelyn was predeceased by her husband in 2013, sisters Lois Honea (Bill) and Phyllis (Ernie) Frulla, in-laws Albert Mueller, Walter and Margot Mueller, Ralph and Elfrieda Weiss, niece Vivian Wheat , nephew Richard Mueller, lifelong best friend Garnetia (Bobby Dean) Crumpler and her parents Archie and Hazel Lanman.
Evelyn was a proud descendant of James Taylor Lanman, an American Revolutionary War Patriot who fought in the Battles at Guilford Courthouse and Eutaw Springs where he was wounded in service.
Our family wants to express our love and gratitude to Evelyn’s wonderful caregivers, including her granddaughter Allison Eastman, daughter Lori Wolf, friends Tara Ellsworth, Zubeda Kalume, and Sandy Medley.
Evelyn spent the last 12 years living with her primary caregivers, daughter and son-in-law Cindi and Richard Eastman. They shared a special bond through those precious years, and Evelyn was constantly surrounded by love.
All are welcome to call on Evelyn’s family on March 21, 2026, starting at 3PM with a Memorial service for family and friends to follow at 4pm. Light refreshments will be served afterwards with a time of fellowship at Greater Grace Church of Utica, 1112 Ney Ave., Yorkville NY
