He was predeceased by: his parents, Regina Sears and George Sears; his brothers, Dennis Sears Sr. and Rev G. David Sears; and his grandsons, Dane Sears and Kyle Burkey.
He is survived by: his wife Carol Pittman of Oriskany; his children, Dr. Richard L. Sears, Jr. (Dorothy), Theresa VanGennep (Roy) of Leesburg, FL, Rebecca Burkey (Timothy) of Fairport, Mary Beth DeVito (Joseph) of Fairport, Jeffrey Sears (Kimberly) of New Hartford and Dr. Lisa Sears; and his siblings, Daniel (Eileen) of Winterhaven, FL and Diana Babcock (Steven) of Syracuse. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
