He was predeceased by: his parents, Samuel S. Shorter, Sr. and Katherine Shorter (Chappell); his wife Imogene "Genie" Babb Shorter; and his brothers, Thomas and Christopher.
He is survived by: his children, Samuel, III, John, Robert and Arlene; his siblings, Frank, Susan, Nannette, Mary Anna, Amie, Barbara and Michael; and his friends, Lisa Skinner and Raymond Turse.
A memorial service was held on Sunday, September 28th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the First Reformed Church (70 Scofield St, Walden, NY 12586). The inurnment was held on Monday, September 29th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Orange County Veterans Cemetery (111 Craigville Rd, Goshen, NY 10924).
