He was predeceased by: his parents, Victor VanderEssen and Margaret McKechnie VanderEssen Crans; his stepfather William Crans; and his siblings, Ian VanderEssen and Beverly Crans Lovelace.
He is survived by: his caregiver Eileen VanderEssen of Wallkill; his children, Kathleen VanderEssen of High Point and Matthew VanderEssen (Alexis) of Walden; his grandchildren, Alicia, Alexa, Amanda, Adam Gomez, Ethan and Maia VanderEssen; his great grandchildren, Jalen Braddy and Logan Solomon; and his siblings, William Crans of New Paltz, Patricia Crans of Bradenton, Florida and Peter VanderEssen of Rock Tavern. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews.
