He was predeceased by: his parents, Alfred McCarthy and Pauline McDonald McCarthy; his wife Nancy Ann Kelly; his sons, Michael J. and Daniel J.; and his brothers, Alfred and James.

He is survived by: his sons, Matthew J. of Watertown and Joseph P. of Watertown; and his brother Joseph M. (Josephine). He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
