He was predeceased by: his parents, Salvatore Chiera and Mary Chiera (Border); his wife Judith McMeel Chiera; his son Salvatore P. Chiera, Jr.; and his siblings, Joseph Chiera (late Mary), Mary Dalpe (Bob), Frank and Dominick Chiera.
He is survived by: his children, Patricia Corina (Mark Hagadorn) of Cohoes, Paula Phillips (Phil) of Troy, Kris Chiera (Tom Sheedy) of Waterford and Kay Mastroianni (Anthony) of Clifton Park; and his sibling Savillia Johnson (late Walter) of Albany. He is also survived by several loving grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
