He was predeceased by: his parents, Karl Kanerva and Jeanne Vincelette Kanerva; his uncle Toivo "Tug" Kanerva; his siblings, Sue (Butch) and Willy; and his friend Walt "Grandpa Walt" Faro.
He is survived by: his wife Mary; his children, Amanda Vaughn (Thad Airhart) and Carl "C. J." Kanerva (Jodi); his grandsons, Mason Vaughn, Alex and Max Kanerva; his aunt Agnes Kanerva; his sister Karen Soltesz; his nephew Brad; and his nieces, Karla, Susie and Ginny "Gigi" Faro.
