Robert A. Woltersdorf Obituary

Robert “Bob” Woltersdorf, 79, was born on May 9, 1942 in Eastchester, NY. He passed away peacefully on July 23, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.

Robert was a lifelong resident of Eastchester where he graduated from EHS. He continued onto Bucknell University where he was a proud member of the ROTC, Sigma Phi Epsilon, and the glee club, with an interest in social work and business. Following graduation, he became a Captain in the United States Army for four years during Vietnam, where he trained air rescue medics. He was stationed in Chicago for his last assignment, where he would enjoy an off-duty beer with friends at Butch McQuire’s. After leaving the army, he returned to New York to pursue his master’s degree in social work at Columbia University.

Robert met his future wife, Nora, at the Von Steuben Day German Parade in New York City, where they lived for six years. He started his career at Esquire Men’s Magazine in the newsstand sales division, and his career in publishing continued for nearly 40 years until he retired at the age of 69. Over these years, Robert was a devoted father of five children: Erik, Krista, Kurtie, Kyle, and April Joy. Robert and Nora raised their children in Westchester County, NY.

Robert loved going to the beach with his family, writing, playing tennis, and bowling, and wouldn’t admit it, but he was also a very gifted artist. Robert was also a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church.

Robert is survived by his children, April and Kyle Woltersdorf, Krista (Rick) Ammirato and grandson Matteo Ammirato, his wife of 42 years, Nora, and his brother Alfred. He is predeceased by his sons, Erik and Kurtie, his parents, Karl and Lilli, and his sister Irmgard.

Robert was a kind and gentle man with a big heart, and he will always be remembered that way.
