He was predeceased by: his parents, Gerald Smith and Dorothy Smith (Warlick); his sister Carm Smith; his aunts, Barbara LaConte and Gertrude Mahady; and his cousin Deborah Forsythe.

He is survived by: his wife Julie Smith; his daughter Sarah Smith; his stepchildren, Matt Stewart and Danielle Whitham; his son Tom Dodson; his grandson Grantham Freeman; his stepgrandchildren, Alyssa and Connor; his brother Gerald Smith Jr.; his father-in-law Carl Montroy; his brother-in-law Gary Gibens (Shirley); his nephews, Greg Smith (Thersea) and Gerald Smith II (Ann); his cousin Billie Jean; his pet Baby Bonkers; and his close friend Mary. He is also survived by friends from hockey and new friends.

A celebration of life was held on Sunday, September 13th 2026 at 2:00 PM at 8239 Westmoreland Rd, Whitesboro, NY 13492.
