We announce the death of Sylvia J. Bates of Whitney Point, New York, who passed away on October 12, 2026, at the age of 81. Sylvia will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. Sylvia’s absence will be deeply felt by those who valued her companionship.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Marcel Schram and Emily Schram of Wolcott, NY.. She is survived by: her husband Kenneth P. Bates; her daughters, Susan VanHart (Dean), Jacqueline Carrese (James) and Jennifer Chetwynd (Jon); and her siblings, Joyce Shorts and Edward Schram. She is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, October 24th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church (59 Keibel Rd, Whitney Point, NY 13862). A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, October 24th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
