Monserrate Ruiz Obituary

Monserrate Ruiz, lovingly known as "Rate," passed away peacefully on May 22, 2026, at the age of 86. He was born on July 10, 1939, in Lajas, Puerto Rico.

Monserrate will be remembered for his warm heart, generous spirit, and wonderful sense of humor. He had a way of making people feel seen and cared for simply by being himself. His kindness touched many lives, and his presence brought comfort, laughter, and joy to those around him.

He worked for many years at the New York Institute for. Special Education, where he began in groundskeeping department and later working as a security officer. He was deeply respected and well liked by his coworkers, many of whom remained lifelong friends.

Monserrate deeply valued kindness, playfulness, and the importance of family and community. He will be remembered for loving others wholeheartedly and for the steady, caring presence he brought into the lives of those around him.

He is survived by his beloved wife of over 60 years, Lucy; his daughters, Luz and Soraya; his grandchildren, Jorge, Amaury, Rhamsis, Liana, and Kaitlyne; as well as many great-grandchildren, extended family members, friends, and loved ones who will forever cherish his memory.
