He was predeceased by: his parents, Ceu Ascensao Saraiva and Alexandrino Saraiva Friends. He is survived by: his wife Maria De Fatima; his children, Moses, Ana Paula, John and Christine; his grandchildren, Tylor, Victoria, Justin, Christian and Ashley; his children-in-law, Gina (Rosa Amelia) and Darren (Joe); and his siblings, Demetrio and Maria Helena.
As a result of all his contributions to the Portuguese community, in 2017 he received the Life-Time Achievement Award for the New York Portuguese American Leadership Conference.
